The Governing Body
The Governing Body meets every half-term in the Nursery. It is responsible for working closely with the Headteacher for making sure that the school promotes high standards of educational achievement.
Members of the Governing Body also serve on committees responsible for staffing, safeguarding, finance and the maintenance of the buildings. All meetings are clerked and minuted.
Since May 2018 Mill Hill Nursery and Houghton Community Nursery have become a Hard Federation which means the Governing Body named above is responsible for both schools.
As the Governing Body of Mill Hill Nursery School and Houghton Community Nursery School, it is our pleasure and privilege to welcome you and your child.
So, who are we?
We are a body of individuals. We give our own time to help raise and maintain the standards and performance of both schools by supporting the head teacher and her staff. As a body of individuals, we bring with us a diverse set of skills, opinions, ideas and expertise which in turn, we hope, allow all areas of the community to be represented.
Please say hello if you see us around!
Why did we become governors?
We are all fully committed to the highest standards of education and childcare provision being delivered at Mill Hill Nursery School and Houghton Community Nursery School, of which many of us have experienced this first-hand, as our own children have attended.
We see the dedication with which Sarah and her staff ensure all aspects of your child’s wellbeing are catered for. We have each been into each nursery and witnessed first-hand the work that goes into the continual development of the different learning environments including;
- The studio
- The Theatre
- The Digital Atelier
- The Outdoor space
- The Den (our provision for 2-3 year old children)
- The Nest (our provision for 0-2 year old children)
We have also seen the creative, and often innovative ways in which the staff endeavour to light the sparks of imagination in each child, whilst always striving to ensure the high standards expected of a Nursery School with Mill Hill being judged outstanding by OFSTED. The balance between freedom of choice and adult guidance is judged perfectly to ensure children are able to develop and broaden their natural talents and abilities. The staff are highly skilled in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, with the highest standard of training ongoing. However, they have also looked to other models, such as Reggio Emilia (Italy) and High/Scope (USA), adopting the most pertinent aspects of these learning styles to incorporate into their own practice.
What do we do?
It is our role to ensure there is a clear vision and direction for the Nursery School, holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational and financial performance of the school. We also assume the role of a “critical friend,” offering support, advice and opinions on management matters regarding the nursery.
Finally…
We are delighted that you have chosen to send your child to Mill Hill Nursery School. We will continue with our commitment to our role as a Governing Body, working in tandem with staff, to ensure an enriching, rewarding and fun-filled Early Years experience for your child. We look forward to meeting many of you over the coming year.
Yours faithfully
The Governing Body of Mill Hill Nursery.
