Health and Wellbeing

What do we mean by ‘Well Being’?

Wellbeing is defined as the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy, and can be divided into three sub categories – see below:

  • Emotional wellbeing â€“ this includes being happy and confident and not anxious or depressed.
  • Psychological wellbeing â€“ this includes the ability to be autonomous, problem-solve, manage emotions, experience empathy, be resilient and attentive.
  • Social wellbeing â€“ has good relationships with others and does not have behavioural problems, that is, they are not disruptive or violent.

Our aim : is to create a  school where everyone has the opportunities to acquire and develop, the knowledge and understanding, the skills, capabilities and attributes, which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical well being now and in the future.

It is vitally important that we strive to be a mentally wealthy school, where our pupils have the tools and the resilience to deal with life and flourish academically and emotionally.

We regularly talk about wellbeing in nursery and share strategies with both children and adults to help us keep a healthy mind. Our current ‘Bee Kind’ campaign encourages and promotes an ethos of respect and kindness for all. We also take part in half termly ‘Wellbeing Wednesdays’ to encourage everyone to keep connecting, giving, taking notice, learning and keeping active. Some children working in our Digital Atelier researched online communication as a way to reach out to others. They planned their online content and independently used our digital tools to create their first influencing video… ‘Bee Happy.”  You can click below to view our Bee Happy VLOG on our YouTube channel…

Mental Health First Aid

Mental health and wellbeing is a huge priority for our children in nursery but also for our staff and parents too. We’d like to reach out to let you know that we have two members of staff in nursery who have completed a mental health first aid qualification – Beverly Hughes our childcare manager and Sarah Richards one of our teachers in main nursery. This qualification covered a vast range of mental health issues in adults, ways in which we can provide support and provided lots of knowledge on signposting to a range of professionals and services available.    We are here if you ever need to reach out to us in a time of need. #mentalhealthawareness
