Making it work with Parents and Carers
We respect the role that parents and carers play as the principal carer in their children’s lives, and we want to develop a close working relationship with you so that we are consistently meeting your family’s needs.
We find that open, two way communication is crucial so we always make time to talk at the beginning and end of each day, and you will receive information about your child’s nursery day verbally and through sharing together your child’s ‘Learning Story’ book.
Inclusion for all children
Our policy is to include all children through partnership working with Health and other agencies. We support children’s needs fully, at all times. However, additional training or information may be needed before your child is able to start in order to ensure their safe access to the learning environment.

Family Hubs
We want to ensure that local families can access the right support, at the right time, in the right place, with the right people. There are five Family Hubs in Sunderland who aim to:
- Bring services together to improve access to services
- Improve the connections between families, professionals, services and providers
- Put relationships at the heart of family support
At the core of every Family Hub network is a great Start for Life for babies, from conception through to 2 years old. Support is also available to families of children aged up to 19, or to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged up to 25.
